Morocco's climates and customs vary a lot, and a smart, light packing list makes travel easier. This checklist covers what most travelers need for a general trip; if you are heading straight to the Sahara, see our desert-specific packing guide as well.
Clothing
- Lightweight, breathable layers that cover shoulders and knees; this is comfortable and respectful in medinas and villages.
- A warm layer or fleece for cold desert and mountain evenings.
- A light rain jacket if you travel in winter or spring.
- A scarf or shawl: useful for sun, sand and wind.
Footwear
- Comfortable walking shoes for uneven medina streets.
- Sturdy shoes or light boots if you plan to hike in the Atlas.
- Sandals for hot afternoons and easy days.
Sun and desert essentials
- Sunglasses, a hat and high-factor sunscreen.
- A reusable water bottle.
- Lip balm and moisturiser for dry air.
Small essentials
- A plug adapter: Morocco uses European-style round-pin sockets.
- A power bank for long driving days.
- Some cash in local currency for small purchases and tips.
- A small day bag and a photocopy of key documents.
Travel light
Soft bags are easier in riads and vehicles than large hard cases. Many travelers pack a smaller overnight bag for the desert night and leave the rest with the main luggage.
