Private Morocco Tours

4-Day Morocco Desert Tour

One extra day for a more relaxed private desert journey from Marrakech, with more time on the road, in the landscapes and out in the dunes.

Duration
4 days
Starts:
Marrakech
Ends:
Marrakech

Tour Overview

Our classic desert loop, with a smoother, more relaxed pace than the 3-day version. After the dunes, the return route pauses in Ouarzazate, the "Hollywood of Morocco," instead of driving straight through, so you finish the trip well-rested rather than road-weary.

It is a private tour, so you set the rhythm, and our team adapts the plan to your dates and interests.

Places on this journey: Marrakech, Sahara Desert, Ouarzazate, Ait Ben Haddou.

Highlights

  • Dades Gorges & Todra Gorge
  • Camel trek & overnight in Erg Chebbi dunes
  • Sunrise over the Sahara
  • Ouarzazate film studios & Taourirt Kasbah
  • Ait Benhaddou UNESCO kasbah

Day-by-Day Itinerary

  1. 1

Day 1: Marrakech → Boumalne Dades

Leaving Marrakech behind, the road climbs into the High Atlas Mountains and crosses the dramatic Tizi n'Tichka Pass, the highest paved mountain pass in North Africa, with sweeping views over Berber villages clinging to the slopes. A stop at the crumbling Telouet Kasbah reveals the faded grandeur of the Glaoui dynasty, while a short detour to Ait Benhaddou — the UNESCO-listed fortified village famous from Gladiator and Game of Thrones — is a highlight for photography lovers. After lunch in the former garrison town of Ouarzazate, the route continues along the Skoura palm oasis and through the fragrant Valley of Roses before reaching Boumalne Dades at the entrance to the dramatic Dades Gorges.

  2. 2

Day 2: Boumalne Dades → Merzouga

The morning begins with a drive through the dramatic Dades Gorges, where wind-sculpted cliffs form the famous "Monkey Fingers" rock formations, before continuing to the narrow, towering Todra Gorge for an optional short walk between 300-metre limestone walls. The route then crosses the palm groves around Tinghir and the fossil-rich town of Erfoud, where workshops cut and polish 350-million-year-old marine fossils. Passing through Rissani, once the capital of the Tafilalt oasis, the first golden crests of the Erg Chebbi dunes appear on the horizon. Late afternoon, a camel trek carries you deep into the dunes to a desert camp, where dinner is served under the stars around a campfire with traditional Gnawa music.

  3. 3

    Day 3: Merzouga → Ouarzazate

After a Sahara sunrise, the group retraces the Dades Valley back toward Ouarzazate, known as the "Hollywood of Morocco" for its film studios that have hosted productions such as Lawrence of Arabia and Game of Thrones. Time permitting, a visit to the imposing Taourirt Kasbah rounds out the day.

  4. 4

    Day 4: Ouarzazate → Marrakech

The final leg revisits (or visits for the first time) the UNESCO-listed Ait Benhaddou before climbing back over the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, with stops at roadside Berber cooperatives selling argan oil and local crafts, arriving back in Marrakech in the late afternoon.
