Atlas Mountains: private tours and trips

Berber villages, deep valleys and North Africa's highest peaks

About Atlas Mountains

The High Atlas rises just south of Marrakech and holds Jebel Toubkal, at 4,167 metres the highest peak in North Africa. Between the summits are terraced valleys, walnut groves and Amazigh (Berber) villages built from local stone and earth.

The mountains are also the road to the desert: the Tizi n'Tichka pass carries travelers from Marrakech toward Ouarzazate and the Sahara.

Things to do in Atlas Mountains

  • Walk between mountain villages in the Imlil or Ourika valleys
  • Meet local families over tea or a home-cooked meal
  • Cross the Tizi n'Tichka pass on the way south
  • Hike toward Toubkal in the right season with a guide
